Singer Murdered Leaving Her Own Concert
It happens more than you think.
Beginnings
Mia Zapata was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1965. Music was always her #1 interest. Billie Holiday and Jimmy Reed were two of her biggest influences. She played the piano and guitar as well. Mia grew up with friends in many different circles. She knew how to get along with people. In the 1984 she chose to attend Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. At Antioch College she formed a band with some friends called, The Gits. Her and her friends were trying to make her dreams come true. After college, the band chose to move to Seattle Washington. This was in 1989.
The Gits Band
The Gits consisted of Mia, Andrew “Joe Spleen” Kessler, Steve Moriaty, and Matt Dresdner. They played singer, guitarist, drummer, and bassist respectfully. Even though they formed in Ohio they knew Seattle had a grudge music scene that was up-and-coming and they wanted to capitalize off of it. When they moved to Seattle they found an abandoned house to live in together. They called this the “Rat House” and they lived and recorded in it. It was located in the Capital Hill District of Seattle, Washington.
